Liberal policy would assist fledgling Bridport Surf Life Saving Club

This week the Tasmanian Liberals announced a policy that will see the investment of $2.275 million in Tasmanian Surf Life Saving Clubs and services across the State.

These funds would allow for ongoing operational support, and significant capital investment in important equipment and facilities.

One of the bodies eligible for financial assistance would be the Bridport Surf Life Saving Club, currently being established.

“Since 1928, Tasmanian Surf Lifesavers have been assisting and educating beach-goers across the state,” Shadow Minister for Sport and Recreation and Liberal Member for Bass, Peter Gutwein said.

“The many volunteers and members have dedicated themselves to this invaluable service and a Hodgman Liberal Government will ensure their efforts are recognized properly.

“By renewing the State Government’s Service Agreement with Surf Life Saving Tasmania (SLST) from 2010-2015, and increasing annual funding to $250,000, Surf Life Saving Tasmania will be able to increase their capacity and continue performing their great work.

“An additional $2 million over 2 years for capital investment will also enable SLST to invest in much needed capital across Tasmania.”

Liberal Member for Bass, Sue Napier, said this was fantastic news for Bridport where efforts are well and truly underway to establish a club in the North East.

“In Bridport there is a team of people working hard to build their own Surf Life Saving Club,” Mrs Napier said.

“The fledgling club is being guided by experienced surf life saver, Shane Wooden, and I hope that through this policy we will see the community’s efforts rewarded.

“Peter and I are urging the community to get behind the establishment of this club and we hope that this Liberal policy will be able to assist Bridport to enjoy the many benefits of having its very own surf life saving club.”
